Welsh Corgi Breed History and Characteristics

Originating in Wales, this breed claims the title as one of the oldest herding breeds in the world, and you can trace their origins to 1107 AD. The American Kennel Club classifies them as a member of the Herding group, and they can grow between 25 and 27 pounds. They’re medium-energy, and they live between 11 and 13 years.

Corgis can adapt to both city and country living with few problems, and they’re flexible enough to handle changes in their lives. This makes them great family dogs, especially families that plan to expand and add kids.
